Lawyer Figurine

I had the opportunity to sculpt an 8 inch lawyer figurine for a client. Super fun, and the most realistically proportioned sculpture I’ve ever made. (especially in the eyes, they aren’t cartoonishly huge!)  I loved working on the folds in the robes and the challenge of sculpting an architectural prop for the first time.

Disney Fairies Fawn Sculpt

IMG_2374[1]

Here’s a sculpt of Fawn from the Disney Fairies movies, well more specifically its her redesign from Neverbeast. Anyways, its coming along, still have to make her right arm and of course finish the bird. I’m going to try and use the airbrush on this one again, it will be more of a challenge than the Jack sculpt because of all the different colours she’ll need.

Excited to Start Something New

Hi! just a quick goal sheet: Want to make something Disney Fairies related, need to finish painting a lilypad design on a picnic table that’s twice the size of a regular picnic table (which I think is awesome), want to make a Jedi sculpture, want to figure out how an old fuzzy TV and a bunch of tin can lids and a couple toothbrushes could become an awesome recycle art sculpture.

Jack Skellington Wings

The winged King of Halloween is coming along. Lots of new techniques that I’m trying out on this piece, namely carving and sanding the clay after its baked to give it a more chiseled and sleek look. Also I bought an airbrush so I’m painting it with that. The airbrush really takes the final look of the sculpture to the next level with its completely smooth application of paint, and gorgeous gradients can be achieved.

Next up, his clothes, which will be made of black velvet with silver thread pinstripes…its gonna be sweet.

Brooding Jack

Here’s a new sculpt I’m working on of Jack Skellington. I’m paying specific attention to his bony hands this time, and going to utilize some carving skills to sharpen him up after he’s baked. Also going to add wings, trying to decide between using real feathers or sculpting them out with clay…hmm maybe I’ll utilize both actually…

The photo makes his legs look strange, oh well, I’ll take a bunch more photos later.

Nightmare Before Christmas Figurine

Hi! Here is the finished version of the proposal sculpture I was working on. That’s right, it’s Jack and Sally from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. My first time making a sculpture involving two persons, it was an exciting challenge. I was thinking of how I would do Sally’s stitching on her body, since I really wanted it to pop out, like in the movie, instead of just painting it on. I ended up chopping up some thin wire and pressing it into the clay in a stitch pattern. It created just the effect I was going for!

I was most looking forward to making Jack’s bat-necktie and coat-tails, I just think Jack’s design from the movie is so brilliant. So simple and elegant.

Okay the ring. I was going through all the options: should it be a pumpkin? Bat? gnarled up root? But I thought it should be somewhat beautiful, because Sally is, and I know that Jack also appreciated a little beauty, and when I thought of that I immediately knew what it should be- the green butterfly that Sally made for him!

I was dreading painting all the different patterns from Sally’s dress, but the attention to detail was worth it because now I think that’s one of the best parts of the figurine! I don’t know why, but I was also super excited to make Sally’s eyelashes ( out if wire, again). Maybe because I knew that once her thick eyelashes were on she would really look like herself. All in all, a great project. Hey, it’s what I love to do.
